Here are some suggestions of ways to raise more awareness of malaria and send more bed nets to Africa.
THE BIRTHDAY NET
Honor a child, grandchild, godchild, niece or nephew on their birthday with a donation to The Baby NETwork (MNM)
THE SHOWER NET
Host a baby shower and honor the expectant mom and her unborn baby with gifts and donations to The Baby NETwork (MNM)
THE SPREAD NET
Hold a covered dish dinner at places of worship, clubs or organizations. Offer a program on bed nets and encourage donations to The Baby NETwork (MNM)
THE DINNER PARTY NET
Host a dinner party with an African theme. Serve African food. Play African music.
Display a map of Africa highlighting the areas most affected by malaria.
Encourage donations to The Baby NETwork. (MNM)
THE MOVIE NET
Host a home movie night. Charge a $10.00 admission. Donate the proceeds to
The Baby NETwork (MNM) Show a movie with an African theme.
Talk about the effects of malaria on Africa.
THE PARENT/GRANDPARENT NET
Honor a parent/grandparent with a donation to the Baby NETwork. (MNM)
THE FISH NET
Host a fishing tournament with the entry fee going to The Baby NETwork. (MNM)
THE BOOK NET
Feature an African theme book in a book club. Talk about the importance of bed nets and encourage donations to The Baby NETwork. (MNM)
THE CELEBRATION NET
Honor a young person on their special day; confirmation, bar mitzvah, coming of age, graduation, etc. with a donation to The Baby NETwork. (MNM)
THE WEDDING NET
Honor a bride and groom with a donation to The Baby NETwork. (MNM)
THE ANNIVERSARY NET
Honor a couple on their anniversary with a donation to the Baby NETwork. (MNM)
THE FAIR NET
Organize a children’s fair to benefit The Baby NETwork. (MNM)
Charge a small admission. Inform the children about the effects of malaria.
Offer simple games with a malaria theme.
Some suggestions:
Pin-the-Proboscis-on-the-Mosquito
(Like pin-the tail-on-the-donkey only draw a giant mosquito and
pin on a long nose)
Stomp Out Malaria- balloon tied on the ankle
Water Balloons-the importance of clean water
(mosquitoes breed in still water)
Guess the Number of Dragonflies in the Bottle
(Dragonflies are a natural predator of mosquitoes)
(use plastic bugs from the dollar store or a party shop)
